ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Flute and drum, two of the most ancient and individual sounds in the musical universe, unite in this innovative ensemble featuring Kate Steinbeck on flutes and Byron Hedgepeth on percussion. Together they create a blend of musical timbres, rhythmic variety and groove that captivate audiences. Their repertoire encompasses multicultural and modern works by such notable composers as Lou Harrison, Alec Wilder, Gareth Farr and Howard Hanson along with JS Bach, Spirituals and fresh new Waltzes. This dynamic collaboration of sound features the modern wooden flute, alto and bass flutes, a variety of drums along with Chinese gongs, Tibetan bowls, vibraphone and marimba.
