ABOUT THE ARTISTS

David Heid & Deborah Hollis DAVID HEID AND DEBORAH HOLLIS form one of the Triangle's newest piano duos. Currently both serve as staff members in the Duke University Department of Music and bring a broad range of solo and chamber experience to their ensemble. As a team, they have performed concerts in various venues across the area. Their concerts reflect the enormous scope of material available for duo pianos and one piano four hands and they frequently present neglected masterpieces of this genre.

DAVID HEID comes to North Carolina after a successful career in New York City as a vocal coach/accompanist. Among the many well-known singers he has performed with are Karen Beardsley, Susan Dunn, Adria Firestone and Carolyn James. A composer, arranger and conductor, he made his Lincoln Center debut in Alice Tully Hall in 1994. In the summer of 1997, he was heard at both the Darling Harbor Convention Center and the historic Towne Hall in Sydney, Australia. His coaching clients include past Grammy and Tony Award winners. Formerly on staff of the Juilliard School, he served as musical director for the 1992 production of Marat-Sade. He also performed (pianist) with the Chautauqua Theater Company. Heid is currently a staff accompanist at Duke University and is in demand throughout the region as a collaborative artist. He has worked with The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, The Fletcher Foundation, Opera Company of North Carolina, Theater in the Park, Thompson Theater Summerfest and Triangle Opera Theater. Heid also works extensively in gospel music and has recorded on a number of Christian labels. He has toured the U.S. and Canada with Jane Syftestad and was the founding director of The Voices of St. John's MCC — named in 1997 "The Best Gospel Choir in the Triangle." Their debut CD "Anywhere with Jesus, was nominated for a GLAMA Award in the contemporary spiritual category.

DEBORAH HOLLIS earned a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music degree from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. While living in the Chicago area, Hollis was accompanist for the choral department at Northeastern Illinois University, was an adjunct faculty member in the piano department at Triton College in River Grove, and was accompanist for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra First-Chair Series. Since 1999, she has held the position of staff accompanist at Duke University where she coaches and performs with voice and string students. She performs frequently as accompanist with local artists and chamber ensembles. She has also performed with Choral Society of Durham, Longleaf Opera, and is a member of Mallarmé Chamber Players. In addition to her active performance schedule, Ms. Hollis maintains a private piano studio.

The reception following the concert is sponsored by the Raleigh Chamber Music Guild.
