Once again, we are accepting proposals from North Carolina-based chamber ensembles to present concerts on our Sights & Sounds on Sundays 6-concert series at the North Carolina Museum of Art.

2008 Fundraising Gala (the Evening Before)
Saturday, March 8 at 7:30 PM
Please join friends of the Raleigh Chamber Music Guild for our 8th annual fundraising gala at Ruggero Piano [directions] . The gala will feature Awadagin Pratt, Piano and Zuill Bailey, Cello and will include heavy hors d'oeuvres, wine and desserts. Seating is limited, so make reservations early!
Sponsor tickets $150 ($110 tax-deductible) — includes two reservations and recognition in the program.

UNC Ensemble/Iceblink

The final concert in the 2007-2008 Sights & Sounds series features Iceblink, a new multimedia work commissioned by the RCMG from UNC composer Allen Anderson, based on journals and images from Antarctica as conceived by flutist, journalist & photographer Brooks de Wetter-Smith during a December 2006 expedition.
At 2 PM prior to the concert, Allen Anderson and Brooks de Wetter-Smith will talk about their work. During the actual performance of Iceblink , images from Antarctica will be projected on a large screen behind the players.
In addition to the commissioned work, the concert will include works by Stravinsky and Debussy.

Brussels Chamber Orchestra

The Raleigh Chamber Music Guild is sponsoring a special concert by the Brussels Chamber Orchestra , an eleven-member conductorless string ensemble from Belgium, in its first US performance. The program consisits of Nielsen's Little Suite , Barber's Adagio for Strings , Elgar's Serenade for String Orchestra , and Tchaikovsky's Serenade for String Orchestra .
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in advance from the RCMG or at the door.
Please note the unusual date and time: This is a Saturday concert at 8 PM .

Blue Mountain Ensemble

NC Museum of Art
The first concert in the 2008-2009 Sights & Sounds series features the Blue Mountain Ensemble in an eclectic program of works by Kuhlau, Brahms, Prokofiev, Foss and others. The program was designed to accompany the Far From Home museum exhibit, which presents 20 artists of diverse national and cultural origins whose work explores the universal theme of displacement.
The Blue Mountain Ensemble is based in central North Carolina and brings together very familiar faces to classical music audiences of this region. Its core members Michael Burns, Carla Copeland-Burns, and Elizabeth Tomlin are active artists in numerous venues throughout the state and enjoy nationwide exposure as guest performers and teachers.

Chiara String Quartet

The first performance in the 2008-2009 Masters Series features the Chiara String Quartet in a program of works by Gabriela Lena Frank, Zhou Long, Osvaldo Golijov, and Béla Bártok.
A rising star in the string quartet world, the Chiara Quartet was recently awarded with the Guarneri Quartet Residency Award for artistic excellence by Chamber Music America. The Quartet's other honors include a top prize at the Paolo Borciani International Competition, winning the Astral Artistic Services National Audition, and winning First Prize at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.

2008 September Prelude Chamber Music Workshop
Guest Artists: The Chiara String Quartet

UNC Chapel Hill
The workshop will feature master classes for adults. In addition to the Chiara Quartet, coaches will include artists from UNC, Duke, and the NC Symphony. The classes will target repertoire for strings, strings and piano, and mixed ensembles with winds. Pre-formed groups are encouraged to apply. Individual applications are also welcomed.

The workshop has been made possible through the generosity of ACMP, The Chamber Music Network, and the Clinton B. Ford Fund of its ACMP Foundation, an organization that stimulates and expands the playing of chamber music for pleasure.

The Raleigh Chamber Music Guild Masters Series announces its 67th season , with an exciting roster of artists spanning a wide range of instrument ensembles. We hope you share our excitement and will join us for the 2008-2009 season. Concerts take place at 3 PM in Fletcher Theater of the Progress Energy Center.
